In 1986, New York optician Richard Morgenthal purchased the iconic Frederics Opticians, and the first Morgenthal Frederics store was born on Madison Avenue. Trained in the fine art of painting, Richard Morgenthal paired his love for optics and art to provide eyewear clients with the ultimate in-store experience in an environment where they could enjoy beautifully handcrafted eyewear, the latest lens technologies, and the expertise of licensed opticians. In the years to follow, Morgenthal Frederics slowly expanded into several other storefronts to further establish itself as the leading luxury optical shop in Manhattan.
In 2006, Morgenthal Frederics became the crown jewel of the newly formed Luxury Optical Holdings group, proprietor of the finest optical stores in the country. Richard Morgenthal’s protégé, Jeff Press, was named chief designer, and launched Morgenthal Frederics iconic eyewear nationwide. Focusing on the finest materials, and the finest craftsmanship, Press has continued to elevate the brand to its position today as the most exclusive eyewear collection in the world.
For 25 years, Morgenthal Frederics has been creating legendary designs for the most recognizable faces in the world. We focus on ultra high-end optical eyewear and sunglasses for those who covet classic American design and appreciate superlative quality.
Every frame in the Morgenthal Frederics collection is a perfect convergence of style, craftsmanship and function. Each piece is handcrafted from the finest materials and to standards of excellence unrivaled in the optical industry. All the metal used in our frames is composed of top grade Japanese titanium. Our plastic frames are hand crafted from sheet acetate in Japan and France and our signature one-of-a-kind buffalo horn frames are hand milled by master craftsmen in Germany.
